Say no to paywalls.
Exactly! I don't live in LA anymore, but am still interested in the goings on.
Yes there needs to be an investigation for sure and Yes it looks bad, racist BUT The reasons may also be benign. The terrain funnelled/magnified the extreme Santa Ana's & may have advanced so quickly that crews pulled back to save what they could. Add early H20 pressure issues... Likely bit of all
Horrible. The affluent area got all the attention. People likely died as a result.
Altadena was where affluent BLACK people lived until the fire. It had significant ties to the civil rights era and was one of the few places where Black people were allowed home ownership. THAT’S the story here…that no one is addressing.
Yes, you are correct, but the east side up in the hill area had more expensive homes and more personnel were sent there.
I toured Pacific Palisades with my daughter. Multi million dollar homes burned to the ground. My daughter’s townhome community burned to ashes- no firefighters no water.
I’m so sorry
“More expensive homes” is not really a strong reason for a significant delay in providing the community the necessary resources. Watching emergency services drive away from the area was really hard to stomach.
Agreed!
Yes. They are so concerned about this important issue that people have to pay money to read it.
Exactly. I wanted to read it but screw it.
Right? "Here is paradigm shifting journalism that challenges the idea of equal protection by public services! Only those who can aford it can read it though"
Hearings are called for why altadena was left to burn
Just so unprepared for the firestorm/horrific winds event. Personnel spread too thin everywhere.
💔💔💔💔
😡
It may be. I live in Buffalo, NY and I was interested. But not that interested
Phenomenal reportibg indeed! R. Ellis had just started to uncover PWB’s lead in drinking water crises (crime AND coverup), before leaving for LATimes: www.opb.org/article/2022... Oregon wants quick fix to high lead levels in Portland’s water - OPB
