This drink just cost me $3700 in San Diego. This is why Americans think the economy is terrible. (I would tag David Brooks but he is in the echo chamber of Twitter — I just checked — reposting Ross Douthat, I kid you not.)

A grocery store shelf tag for bottles of The Macallan 30-year-old single malt Scotch, showing a price of $3701.10 for a 750 ml bottle. But the price per bottle if you are a member and buy six of them is only $3330.99!

The point is I am making fun of David Brooks?

A viral tweet by David Brooks from 2023: “This meal just cost me $78 at Newark Airport. This is why Americans think the economy is terrible.” The photo in the tweet is of a cheeseburger with fries, with a double whiskey in the background. There is a “Readers added context” note: “The restaurant has noted that 80% of this tab was Brooks' bar bill.”
