ranking every official control scheme from my favorite game, Super Mario Galaxy S Tier Wiimote and Nunchuk A Tier Joy-Con 2 B Tier Joy-Con D Tier Switch 2 Pro Controller F Tier Switch 1 Pro Controller
I despise playing Galaxy with a traditional controller because playing the game and navigating the cursor with motion controls is done in a way that feels super unnatural and awkward so I put the Switch 1 Pro Con in F Tier and Switch 2 Pro Con in D Tier.
Counterpoint: the Joy Con controls have you point with your right hand, which is not nice for lefties who are used to pointing with their left hand from Wii. In that case, the Pro Con pointer feels more intuitive.
absolutely fair but I am a right handed person and this is just my personal opinion
the only thing that saved the Switch 2 Pro Controller from F Tier is the fact I generally prefer the Switch 2 Pro Con over the Switch 1 Pro Con so I bumped it up sightly in the list
I generally like how the Joy-Cons play as it feels a lot like the controls from the Wii (more on that later) and feel intuitive to use. However the Joy-Cons do get dinged some points because of the fact some changes did have to be made to make it work properly
the Switch 1 Joy-Cons are a tier lower because of their smaller size. additionally this ranking considered the Switch 1 and Switch 2 Joy-Cons being detached from each other. if you using them with the grip or handheld mode they both fall to F Tier
however nothing will beat the original control scheme for Super Mario Galaxy, the Wiimote and Nunchuk. I will always prefer this control scheme as it is the control scheme the game was designed for and the one that feels the most intuitive to use.
