Not saying all teachers are wonderful, that's expecting too much. Where I live, teachers have strong unions. They get paid pretty well, salary goes up with experience and seniority, and the vast majority of them hold a Bachelor's degree or higher + another degree in teaching. = good public schools

In California (80's) because of the Boomers they had too many schools built in the 60's, so they sold them off. Prop 13 got so many teachers laid off and into other industries which developed a teacher shortage so they started allowing them to teach WHILE earning a teaching credential. NOT QUALIFIED

I have many friends in the education systems. Yes, when starting out they will continue their education to get paid more. Some of my friends have become principals, superintendent and aother admin staff. They are among the good ones. Dedicated. Good retirement bennies too.

Actually, you bring up a good point. Teachers union protects the shitty teachers. My kids kindergarten teacher was (no exaggeration) BLIND - Not against the disabled but a Blind teacher mananging 30 five year olds. Did not go over well. Kids getting hurt ALL THE TIME. (Bruised and broken bones)
