They aren't even accommodating, if you're in Korea, they're just confusing people. Like everywhere they go someone will say "배산" and then they'll be on the damn subway or bus and it will say "비아산" -- who does that even help?

It's like when someone has internalised the idiot foreigner who told them "Korean names are difficult" and tells you "Just call me Kim." And you find out their name is the fiendishly complicated "Kim Min-ho"😁 (Or "My name is Choy")

I was at a KOREAN STUDIES conference in June, at a table with 6 people, 4 were Korean, and this Korean professor comes, joins us and says his name is Choy. Like, really? It's a Korean Studies conference, we all speak Korean. In fact we were speaking Korean until you came to our table....
