result of this week's special 2 hour #Paleostream flocking! for this flocking we spent 2 hours on just Spicomellus, however, i spent an additional 6 hours on my piece #paleoart #sciart #scicomm #dinosaur

on a sunny and slightly windy day in Jurassic Morocco, a Spicomellus grazes on the abundant macroalgae by the shoreline. the warm sun and calm water trigger a mass hatching event of thalattosuchians who scramble into the seawater around the Spicomellus, two Scheenstia look on at the oncoming swarm. the Spicomellus is unfazed and continues grazing Spicomellus is a surprisingly derived (unexpected) ankylosaur (large herbivorous armoured dinosaurs) known primarily from osteoderms, these ostoederms are special and unlike any other ankylosaur osteoderms as they fuse to the ribs during ontogeny, there's also evidence it had a tail weapon based on its tail vertebrae, but no such weapon has been identified yet. it would've had incredibly large spikes all over its body Scheenstia is a genus of durophagous fish distantly related to alligator gars. it was very tall and thin in profile thalattosuchians are a group of fully marine crocodile relatives with fish-like tails and tiny forelimbs

Spicy may be the main attraction - but those sunbeaten surface waves... 🥰

honestly, every time i render water it turns into the main attraction to me, genuinely one of the most fun materials to render second only to keratin sheaths

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask: what're the little sea critters? Also the definition and depth on those spines is stunning!

alt text has the answers most of the time :P speculative thalattosuchians, it's a mass hatching event!
