Entire generations of voters are starting to vote now and this is all they've ever actually known of the party. That's how long it's been.
I mean, I'm older side Gen Z and my entire political participation/paying attention is pretty much from Trump 2015 to today. 2016 first POTUS election I watched and "practiced" in a way, I knew who I'd have voted for in the D primaries and the general with the info I had. First POTUS election 2020
It's worse even because I remember Clinton years. Obama was better but he was an anomaly, not the norm. They've literally had no platform apart from "not the GOP but smells like it" for like three decades.
Yeah. After Dukakis got destroyed in 1988 the major takeaway was "maybe we are too liberal and scaring away white suburban voters" and they've moved more and more to the right since, not ending up more conservative than Nixon was.
