Several people I have tried to engage quickly say something like “ oh I know, I can’t look at the news anymore “— and that’s the end of their participation/comment. Like if they ignore it, it won’t touch them ?! WTF

I have experienced this reaction also. With people I know to be liberals/democrats/against him. Like wtf? It sucks but ignoring it won't make it go away. It is very weird

Yes I hear a lot of this. I think they do think it will fix itself somehow. It’s denial and belief in American exceptionalism. Or they just think their privilege will protect them.
