That’s the way to go with bonsai trees that humidity tray beneath it with rocks or even without helps keep moisture to the vital plant roots because of the miniature or small pots they dry out super fast I constantly spray them with a mister spray bottle the super fine ones but anyone will work.
I added moss I got from outside transplants very easy and when it gets looking dry I know it’s time to water and mist it the tree.
