That's how you wind up cursing the fates. Had a little abuela on a job site give me some sort of garlic rice dish one time and I've been chasing that recipe since. Nothing I've made has come close to the perfection that woman casually threw at me.

Similar experience - I had possibly the best bread I have ever tasted in a wee roadside place in Afghanistan, somewhere on the Shomali plain. Guy running the place described it as "Uzbek bread". I have tried and tried and never been able to replicate it.
