Hard disagree. You're thinking too narrowly. A smaller and separate, but stable US alongside a confederate rump state is far more dangerous to him than a US paralyzed by infighting unable to effectively act against his interests.

A) all of this is hypothetical and clearly off the cuff. B) did you miss the part where I said we should evacuate the good people who live in whatever place ends up as the separatist state. Which of course isn't ideal but I'd never want to force anyone to live under their rule.
