This is insanely ahistorical. The Department of Defense was an all new creation in 1947, specially to bring together the disparate armed services. The “Department of War” was really just the army. I hate how stupid Trump’s most performative actions are.

There is nothing in the world that the armed services fight harder than service unification. Omaha Beach is not even a symbol of how hard the Army/Navy/Air Force/Etc will struggle to defeat the guys competing for the good Pentagon parking spaces.

Changing the name of the Dept of Defense to the War Dept is just another distraction, albeit a bad one. Personally, I prefer its current nomenclature. It doesn't sound as belligerent as a War Dept.
