I realize MAGA is not the brightest crowd, but why would USA throw away the immense riches coming from its high tech industries?

Mostly due to those pursuing and desiring this agenda looking for the maximum accumulation of power. Essentially better to reign in hell (an impoverished system) than serve in heaven (having to obey the rule of law).

They're selling it to the rural white godbotherers as a way to force their kids to stay home and be just like them, instead of getting good educations and moving to the city or any other place where gay or brown people aren't beaten to death and hung on a barbed wire fence
