Obviously Microsoft will give the US government any info the it asks for, regardless of local law. I mean, it probably already is. So, given that unwinding form MS in the medium term is unlikely, places like the EU and Canada need to seriously consider how long they feel like protecting MS’s IP

That is an interesting question for law firms, almost all of which of any size use Microsoft Office and all of which store confidential client information.
