There are lots of us here who will dismiss your anecdote, but it's really important to understand. Dems tend to think of the electorate the way economists always posited a "rational consumer." It really doesn't work that way very often.

Hundred percent. I think if this guy as very rational. But his feelings about this were pretty irrational. He can easily make the jump from hearing activists say that to imagining politicians saying that.
