I'm in the middle of reading The 1619 Project, and you can draw a straight line from the first 30 slaves being dropped off in Virginia to what's happening today. It's like the Confederacy won the war, it's all about white fear of anything and anyone not white and stupid, back then and today.
I'd recommend some material on that. "The Invention of the White Race", Theodore W Allen (2 vol) and recommend the addition of "The Great Father" abridged or unabridged if you brave enough lol, by Francis Paul Prucha. It details Federal Indian Policy and could bridge the gap between all 3 sources.
Not nearly enough people hung for their role in the Civil War, and reconstruction was an abject failure.
