They live in Northern Virginia. Tons of Red Sox fans in NoVa from back before the Nats came to DC. They didn’t want to be Os fans probably bc of racism or something so they picked the Red Sox because of the curse of the Bambino and rooting for an underdog.

People inherit fandom from their parents so there are a lot of young people in NoVa who are now Red Sox fans because their parents/Grandparents were. HUGE Red Sox fanbase in NoVa.

Makes sense. I lived in NoVa in the '80s and knew a lot of Sox fans. I didn't inherit my dad's fandom (he was fickle and we didn't get along well besides) but my son inherited mine!

Red Sox/Yankees overran us in the dark times (1998-2011).. they still show up big and usually we don't like going to those games. It's exhausting to have to out-shout them.

I think many Baltimore locals are Red Sox fans. They buy burdland memberships, but attend the Sox games.

I don't think it's as bad as when I first moved to Baltimore 25 years ago. Back then if you went to a Red Sox or Yankees game it was like you were at a home game for that team. Almost nary an Orioles fan in the stadium comparatively.

It's because the Orioles have gotten so bad and all the fans who are only going to come out to a game when they're good aren't there to balance things out more.
