The nunchaku ban harks all the way back to the martial arts craze of the 70s. They were banned due to their "ease" of creation and usage by, iirc, soccer hooligans. Couldn't show them on TV or even at the cinema. Was still in effect when Soul Edge was released and Li Long's weapon was altered.
