If locals wished to give him a warm welcome, the base would’ve accommodated it. I’m guessing that they did not so wish.

He is probably going to that base because there was no readiness from Greenland officials to greet him. The absence of local representatives when a US VP arrives is not customary at all (nor is the way this trip has been prepared)

If there were supporters, they would have been cleared to be on the base. Hell, they would have been bused in.
