But they have all levers of government working for them. Including the ability to send our military forces into cities, armed, for no other purpose to intimidate. They have all the levers of power and will use them. We have good and truly screwed ourselves.

Power will stretch only as far as others are willing to carry it; without the cult of personality and the rabid base willing to kill for that Dear Leader *specifically*, the successor may find out just how little power the position alone actually confers.

That is certainly true. And I think initially, several of them would turn on each other, fighting to be the replacement in the next election cycle (like Vance and Rubio). The infighting that would ensue might weaken all of them. Or, if one winner emerges, it might be the most ruthless of them all
