Remarkable, right? I say it all the time, but the grid was the precursor to Central Park in that they cleared the entire city north of where the wealthies lived to make it a reality and then created the leisure parks in the next city over (Brooklyn) for their enjoyment.

I believe this on every level; it's why libraries, and parks are, as we speak, going the way of the dodo bird. Imagine a country of fools crashing it rather than sharing their privilege. Except, we don't have to imagine it.
