Funny thing about that is that the cell-phone conversations from that flight were factitious. Cell-phone technology in those days, which was analogue, did not allow contact from an airplane in flight to the cell towers below.

Yes, I believe there were. Even audio recordings along the lines of Wag the Dog. Cell-phone communication from airplanes to cell towers was technologically impossible in 2001. It's all been ad captandum vulgus.

There were. He's lying, planes had (comically expensive) onboard phones since the 90s. This is revisionist conspiracism.
