At least we haven't gotten flying cars. Humans can barely handle sharing the road; thank God there aren't 20-something dudes texting and plowing into winged family cars overhead

Oh totally. No way humans can manage that.
I have had this very thought! We can’t all be trusted with nice things.
That was My argument 40 years ago.
Not to mention 20-something dudettes texting and instagramming and regularly trying to kill me nearly every single day I drive.
I think by the time we get to that point we'll have been able to dipshit-proof them with proximity sensors or some shit. If they were invented tomorrow yeah no
On the up side, it would considerably hasten Darwinism.
But we really should have robot maids by now
They've been training for this for years
My late father had a Roomba. Whenever I visited, I felt like the damn thing was always under my feet. Just like the cat. 😆
Yet
Or dipshits who run out of gas and fall out of the sky.
The biggest reason no one even tries for flying cars is it seems like it would inevitably lead to falling cars.
yet!
With flying cars, we'd have multiple 9/11's every single day.
Otoh, if we get a propulsion method out of sci-fi, there's suddenly much more room to evade (6DOF instead of just one - lateral). But current flying relies on high speeds and long landing strips, or a machine that tries to kill you at every move - a helicopter 😁
Being one of the highest scorers in my Army Basic Training marksmanship test, I received the "honor" of being flown back to the barracks in a helicopter sporting bench seats with no restraints running alongside wide-open doors. Clipping along at 30mph 200 feet up, I was never more scared in my life.
I remember reading a comment elsewhere that made me think. “We did get flying cars. We called them helicopters. Now why do you think we’re not all flying helicopters?” 🚁
PS: aviationhumor.net/helicopter-p...
Helicopter is a really tough thing to fly. It tries to kill you with every move. Flying fixed wing is much easier. That said, we need new propulsion methods out of sci-fi to make it forgiving enough to be viable for the masses. Antigravity and inertial dampeners.
This 100%. I’m appalled at myself for ever thinking the human race could handle “the future”.
See I'm glad I'm not the only one that's thinking about what a nightmare it would be in the real world if cars could fly. If folks fly like they drive, the carnage would be UNREAL.
Yes! It will be rudderly ridiculous.
