Same, my instinct here is just to lie. Which I do regularly, anytime I run into a binary form here in the US. (If the form is paper, I draw my own nonbinary box and check that!) But if it has to match you with existing records, you can't even do that.
My medical record says I'm female. A mismatch is far more likely if I say I'm male. It's another ludicrous aspect of this system.
An an enby my records are all over the place. So I feel your pain. I’m actually afraid to try to change my gender marker on my social security card, bc I don’t remember what I put down when I changed my name a few years ago.
