sometimes I think that the broader population generally understands what's going on, then I see people saying things like "wait, Austen is trans? I thought they were nonbinary" and I go "ah"

(whispers: nonbinary falls under the trans umbrella and being trans is not defined by going through a physical transition, although for many that is an integral part of it. nonbinary IS trans.)
