Tennessee got smoked by Ohio St. did they belong ? Yes if you go by the regular season . But obviously they are not as good as Ohio St.
Did you watch the games? The first round of the 12-team college playoffs has been an abysmal failure. You can argue who deserved or didn’t deserve to be in, but the bottom line is there was not a single semi-competitive game. This result points to a systemic failure, not a matter of preference.
You never watched post season college football in your life have you
ROFL, OK. Are you going to ask Todd McShay the same question: www.instagram.com/reel/DD5DJ0c...
LOL McShay. Mr. "We need an NFL draft guy on the committee". "Ignore Tennessee getting their ass kicked!!!!!"
Pls don’t watch march madness either
Funny, not a peep out of Lane about how Tennessee didn't belong in the playoff. 🙄
Ole miss got beat by a bad Kentucky team, Florida and LSU. If they can not win those games they will not be able to beat the 4 of the best teams in the country. Only reason this is a conversation because SMU sucks but ole miss is not the answer
Stop writing about Lane Kiffin
Seeding was dumb. Ohio State should have hosted SMU and Tennessee hosts Penn State. Having Oregon, the number one seed, face Ohio State in a quarterfinal is silliness. That's at least a semifinal. OSU beat PSU. Blind resume puts Tenn in front of PSU. Tada, the correct seeding. Committee oopsie...
K.
He’s big mad that his “superior” SEC team got throttled
Or looking at blind resumes. How do you seed these teams? And the conference champs byes messed up the seeding so much. Oregon (Big10/Pac12) is the top seed and their "reward" is Ohio State (Big10)? That's a quarterfinals match up? Should be at least the semis...
Big mad.
Yet I'm talking about Big10 teams...
If Ohio State didn’t lose to a bad Michigan team the last week of the season they would’ve gotten a better seed . . .
They still beat Penn State head to head. If the brackets didn't have the idiotic conference champs byes rule (and it shouldn't), both OhioSt and Tenn host home games. Then Knoxville gets an extra $40mil in economic activity. That's like real money. You can buy two OhioSt rosters for that.
Great counter filled with relevant facts and logic. Night. Night. Sweetheart.
I mean, it's a nice misdirect from your team getting spanked. Whatever gets you through the day.
Well, BEFORE the loss, I was making a solid argument that Tenn should be hosting Penn State while OhioSt hosted SMU. That's because Ohio St can play football. The conference champs byes destroy the bracket. As always, college football is silly. Knoxville missed out on $40mil due to that rule.
It’s not unreasonable for strength of schedule to be a significant factor in determining which teams make the CFB. And in that regard, there are absolutely legitimate questions to be asked about Indiana’s CFB participation.
Then we should also talk about eliminate preseason polls, poll inertia, and the SEC only playing 8 conference games, and propping up their rankings late in the season by filling that game with lower division teams.
SEC has boosted their perceived quality by only playing 8 conference games. All P4 teams should go to 9 or 10
Pre-season poll’s don’t mean anything and I’m not sure what “poll inertia” is, but I’m all for leveling by the playing field and eliminating conference bias. But let’s face it, in the end this is a Big10/SEC contest. And at some point, they will form their own conference, I’d wager.
Poll inertia is what happens when teams are put in a ranking before they even have a resume. You can see this easily when two similar teams lose a game. If a team starts the season top 5 and loses a game that won’t drop as far in the rankings as a team you started lower. Aka conformation bias.
People who voted on preseason polls and make power rankings don’t want to be wrong, so they won’t punish a team like Alabama for losses the way they would Vanderbilt for instance. In season rankings should be based on resume only, not last year or brand name. Preseason rankings shouldn’t exist.
Tennessee was the least prepared team of all those that got in.
This! Quit whining! It was a 4 team playoff last year, and none of these teams would have been playing. It's great to have 12 teams, and if you aren't in the top 4, shut up and be thankful for the opportunity.
Imagine seeing an SEC team worse than Tennessee in the playoff. They might’ve had to actually discuss shortening the second half.
Cry about it, Lane.
SEC just needs to play fewer conference games and more against the Sun Belt. Problem solved
As a Miss fan, I 💯 agree. They put their destiny in the hands of others. No complaints at all about them missing out on the CFP
Lane Kiffin lives rent free in this writer's head. Lift the paywall.
The average margin of victory in the four first-round games this year was 19.25 points. And this was with home team advantage. In the 10 years of the four-team College Football Playoff, the average margin of victory in the semifinal games was 18.35 points. All played at neutral sites.
Has Kiffin always been such a whiner?
