Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar won his second Norris Trophy on Wednesday, taking a step toward cementing himself as the dominant blueliner of this generation. His previous win came in 2022, the year Colorado won its most recent Stanley Cup.

Literally has been a great player since he first stepped onto NHL ice. He’s won the rookie of the year, playoff MVP and two Norris Trophies and he’s only 26, turns 27 at the start of next season.
How did Hughes NOT win this? Just look at statistics.
The Norris trophy is for best defensemen, not necessarily the highest scoring defenseman. There’s more to being a defenseman than scoring. And even so, Makar led all dmen in scoring.
I’m just a salty Canucks fan for too many decades. I appreciate and hear what you said. I still think Hughes should have won. Thxs for the conversation and the distraction of hockey! Cheers
This is why. TLDR: Hughes consistently played against the lower lines of the opposition, while Cale and Werenski played against the top lines. www.reddit.com/r/ColoradoAv...
A-little bias coming from the avalanche perhaps? but hey I’m just a salty Canucks fan. Appreciate the read. Thxs. Cheers.
If I were a Canucks fan I'd be salty, too. But it'd be towards the coaches and management for not playing their best defensive player against the best players of the other team. If QH is as good as we all think he is, he should be out there against the best. His own coaches sabotaged him.
Canucks Management has sabotaged the team since inception. Sigh. So hard being a Canucks fan. Bigger sigh. Truly both players are amazing. So congrats to Makar. (And I’m still going to be salty 😂) cheers
All Hail!
