Cincinnati has been a tournament where many players have struggled and there's been at least one spectator falling ill incident in the crowd in most matches too. Sinner was clearly ill and unable to play properly. A great shame.
The illness of getting smoked
I’ve watched and played tennis for 40 years. This retirement by Sinner just taints the sport. I’m tired of watching these guys retire for really no good reason except I want to be ready for a major. They’re hurting the customers who paid a lot of money to watch a competitive final.
Spectators aren’t going to be refunded?!
The calendar is much longer and tougher than in the past(There wasn't really an Asian swing), slower courts means that matches are much longer and that players are expected to play well all over the year(The times where Sampras and Ivanisevic would rest during the European clay court season are over
Look I agree mostly, I played professionally in the early 80s, a lot has changed. We were given salt tablets for heat stroke and played through. He knows his own body and had a practice session before, he could’ve saved everyone‘s time an just defaulted. It’s the only sport where retires occur.
Besides that, we are having predictable and boring finals in large part because a lot of players are enduring injuries(See Del Potro), the dominance of a few players show that there is something wrong with the sport as a whole.
For sure these players should be allowed to opt out of some of these 1000 masters each year. I can’t imagine playing 70 to 80 matches a year. I’d also eliminate the 5 set matches in the big tournaments.
I'm bad at reading my body(I like working out with weights, so, I'm more used with pain than I should), but yes, reading your body is not easy. And we need a better calendar. Having the player playing in bad conditions like Zverev did is not good for people that paid tickets too.
You watched tennis for 40y but still don't understand it
For no good reason ? You saw he was sick right ? You want him to jeopardize his health so the fans can get their monies worth ?
I saw him getting annihilated
Glad I didn’t waste my money on those tickets 🤬
PED are super hard on the body; Sinner gotta be careful
♡.♡
Tough one for @knowledgefight.bsky.social 's own Jordan here.
It’s a gruelling season for them all; Sasha Zverev played his semifinal but was obviously not well - probably a combination of heat and exhaustion (he played Toronto), and although he never uses it as an excuse, a lot of people don’t realize he has diabetes. Both Sinner and Alcaraz skipped Toronto
