That’s why the Super Bowl window is often correlated with a franchise QB on a rookie contract.. As soon as you have to pay the QB who can get you there, that makes setting up the rest of the pieces under the cap so difficult..

I suspect that lots of clubs have back-of-napkin estimated what cap percent they can afford to spend on each position grouping, with margin set aside for e.g. one All-Pro player in each grouping
