This year, I'm going to reinstate Maths Video of the Week, which I send out on Teams to our A Level Maths students (I've let it lapse in recent years) The descriptions and links to the videos are all ready to copy and paste each week - feel free to use! wykecollege-my.sharepoint.com/:f:/g/person...

Video descriptions 2025-26 Maths video of the week #1 Hi everyone! Each week we’ll be linking to a different interesting or thought-provoking video relating to the world of mathematics. We see the numbers “million” and “billion” a lot, both in maths and in everyday life, but it can be difficult to visualise their relative sizes. In this week’s video, Tom Scott demonstrates the difference between a million dollars and a billion dollars. You may want to watch the first 2-3 minutes then skip ahead to a couple of minutes from the end, as there is a lot of driving in the middle! A Million Dollars vs A Billion Dollars, Visualised: A Road Trip - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YUWDrLazCg Maths video of the week #2 Fermat’s Last Theorem is one of the most well-known theorems in mathematics. It was first stated by Pierre de Fermat in 1637 but was not proven until 1994 by English mathematician Andrew Wiles, who has studied and worked at Oxford, Cambridge and Princeton. In this week’s video Simon Singh introduces the theorem, and explains a little of the history of how it was finally proven. Singh has written a number of popular science and mathematics books (including one on Fermat’s Last Theorem) which are very engaging and recommended if you are looking for some super-curricular reading for mathematics. This could be just for your own interest, or to mention in a UCAS personal statement or interview. I stopped doing them a year or so ago... I just got too busy doing other things. I wish Teams had a function to schedule posts more than a week ahead, so that I could set up a whole term's worth. Have decided to start making an effort again this year 😊

There are apps which you can add to teams that do delayed send but you need to sign in to them and give them permissions. Not sure on the gdpr etc issues with it. We thankfully use Firefly as our vle so can schedule in the whole years. But it is cumbersome at times

I think there is a workaround where you can schedule an email in Outlook to go to Teams, but it sounded like a faff. It would be much easier if they just let you pick a date more than a week ahead when scheduling a post!

You could schedule it as a meeting? But that would be confusing

Yeah, a meeting invite to all our students with a maths video attached sounds like it would cause a lot of confusion 😅

Emily, I don't mean to pry but have you had a break from maths and classroom stuff over the summer?

Hi Graham, I appreciate you checking in; I've had a lovely 6 week break, including a week away with a big family group. It might seem like I'm very focused on maths/teaching on here, because I don't use this platform to share personal stuff. I've been back at work for a week now 🙂

Thank you for sharing, although I can’t access. My laptop tells me I need to have a wyke account. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (Tbf My laptop also has decided that my profile picture is that of the guy who last fixed my laptop and won’t do otherwise)

It's set to "anyone can view", so shouldn't need a Wyke Login - I sent it to our IT helpdesk to check the link as someone else had the same problem a few months ago. I think some people have issues if they're already logged into Teams for a different institution.
