I put my tree up, and then left it undecorated for a day or so, until both cats had a chance to learn that it definitely would not bear their weight. No problems since.

The funny part was, one of the cats ended up being absolutely obsessed with it. He would constantly sit and watch the lights, and when I took it down, he yelled at me for DAYS. 🤣

I can imagine. I think I'd have to just leave the tree there for the cats. They're the bosses of the house after all!
