Well, the question is whether Americans would put up with the consequences. Which would be: 1) worse healthcare. Your chances of survival with the same diagnosis is much better in the US. We have low longevity but that's cause we're so fat, take so many drugs, and kill each other so much. 🧵

If you have the chance to choose where to get surgery, or chemo, or dialysis, pick the US. Your chances are much better.

2) the cost savings come from somewhere. Mostly from healthcare personnel getting much lower salary. Who's going to tell 2 million nurses that their salary just got cut in half. That's what they make in Europe and Canada, that's why it's cheaper. The other place they come from is waiting times.

I got my rotator cuff effed up from catching a ladder from falling on another student at the fire academy. Partial separation of the supraspinatus. A month later I had surgery. Look up how long the wait for rotator cuff surgery is in any of the systems you advocate. It's years.

And it's not just big surgery. My sister-in-law was a Brit (was because she died of cancer they could have cured in the US). She had a secretary. That woman's daughter had her shin broken in a soccer game, needed a cast. I was Friday night. The hospital sent her home told her to come back Monday.

To the government, our healthcare is a cost center. They do everything they can to reduce costs. I don't want to live under that system. I understand it looks good if you have no insurance, or if the insurance costs too much. But the great majority of Americans are better off with current system.
