Reform also wants to end use of consultants but many of those are specialists the councils no longer have the budgets to employ as staff.

As an ex local government employee I've never been so glad to be retired and no longer having to work with idiots like him. They come in not having a clue what the Council they've been elected to can and can't do in law and constantly blame the staff for "stopping them" doing what they want to do.

Yep you're right. I was Head of Democratic Services responsible for the running of meetings and as Deputy Monitoring Officer looked after standards and training. I feel so sorry for those in such positions now. There will be a lot looking at their retirement pot and wondering if they can go early.

As you say the Governance professionals are going to have an interesting time teaching so many new councillors with possibly the wrong opinion of their power how to organise meetings and the limits to their powers
