She didnt see at all aggressive though and didn't bark. More just saying hello Id say!

She's come so far! Wonder if it was the speed and close proximity of the joggers and his dog (no time or space for her to move away so "defence mode" activated)?
She must have got a fright, wee dog no getting a chance to sniff running with the jogging owner
Yeah. Mine does that if not controlled. Like Sophie (see her tail), he just wants to meet/play. It’s always the little dogs which are aggressive in response (just realised @sociabledog.bsky.social would not approve of ANY of this answer 😂)
Managing dog:dog interactions is a must for any dog but especially so fearful* or reactive dogs. Distance from triggers is key. (* a lot of reactivity and “aggression” is born out of fear)
@rorycj.bsky.social you may take Sophie out of Romania, but you cannot take Romania out of Sophie
Trying to play I think
The runner is completely at fault... dogs see face to face as a worry when one dog is running and the other stationary its stressful the runner on seeing you should have slowed to a walk keeping his dog who by the way would have been worried too on the side away ... distance is a worried dogs friend
I can never be responsible for your dogs behaviour. The woman should train her dog not to lunge.
I'm a runner I run alone if I'm running on a narrow path and anyone is walking towards me with our without a dog or child I slow down and if necessary stop ... shared spaces are for everyone and someone running full pelt can cause anxiety towards humans as well as dogs... maybe try a little humanity
It has nothing to do with humanity. Good for you that you slow down, but a dog has to be trained. If a dog can't handle a situation it shouldn't be there. Owners responsibility.
Perhaps she felt a bit intimidated because they were running past her and mum .
Exactly. Not the best exercise for a terrier at the best of times.
NEWS: Miss S Coyle Cellan-Jones, socialite, said when interviewed “while promenading avec mes parents moi encountered un autre chien whom moi wanted to meet et peut-être play with. Ma mère held moi by mon harnais which regrettably made this encounter impossible. Moi did not hear her say ‘leave’.”
Hang on to me mum, this exercise is good for your upper arms! 💕🐾🐾
There seems to be lots of opinions on how this situation should have been handled. I am glad you only take advice from Uncle Socks.
lol does that guy not realize he’s running right past The Most Famous Dog on the internet?
So reward calm. Requires speed on your part
Well having a human & a dog running by on a narrow path is a bit of a temptation. Think my dog might have done that too.
Did that dog owner bother to reply to the Prof?
It sounds like he said 'morning' first and the Prof was replying to him.
Good thing the Prof has a "handle" on the harness.
A small white dog AND a man in shorts running by! Maggie would have done exactly the same as #sophiefromromania - it's like a red rag to a bull, that!
But mum, I thought it was a rabbit… sorry…
I admire your efforts taking on a rescue from overseas. I have a rescue, but with a (presumed) less traumatic past. They are hard work. But, as experience has taught me, well worth the effort.
The handler gets an F for failing to prevent an entirely predictable and preventable lunge. Sophie isn't going to learn that way. You've done a superb job of taming her. Training is a little bit trickier.
But jolly good fun all the same!!!!
Well Dolly the pug seems to think growling at dogs or people will intimidate them into fussing her. This October I will have Diogo from Peru a 1 year old hienz 57 rescue dog. Sophiefromromania is an inspiration
Morning Rory, Diane, Sophie & family. Sir Gunna & Myself also lunge at other doggies because We are rather reactive. Sir Gunna also lunges at moving vehicles so Walkies can be quite a challenge. Frankie & Flakie just enjoy going walkies. Schnoof!!!!!!!!!!!
The best etiquette are leashes
Always have same challenge - when my dog on the lead and other dog off the lead
Difficult situation, space, speed etc. can understand Sophie’s response. 👍 to the little white dog for taking no notice though
Waggy tail!
Oh dear.
It’s like the jump-out-of-your-seat scene in the hospital in Exorcist III
My rescue used to do that! & drag me with him because he cud 😂 all sorted now 😊 have a lovely day & hope gets you all enjoy a cooked breakfast 😊
Did they gradually just stop or did you put in specific measures that worked?
Specific measures & time & staying calm! Still not 100% 😊🐾
Narrow paths are tricky
Very tight spot so not entirely unexpected. The little white dog is quite used to it by the look of it - not fazed one bit! Sophie quite relaxed after a momentary blip..
