China has accused Pete Hegseth of attempting to “sow division” in Asia, issuing a fierce rebuke after he said Beijing posed an “imminent” threat to the region and was gearing up to invade Taiwan.

Put the Chinese response aside. Hegseth is telling the nations of Southeast Asia to 'gear up'. If the Chinese invade / takeover Taiwan, the t administration is very likely not to do anything. In other words any response to China must come from them amplifying current US laissez-faire aussenpolitik.

Taiwan isn't the only friction-point - Chinese incursions in and around the South China Sea are friction-points as well . . . I especially like the ones where the Chinese build islands and then claim them as Chinese territory. One of these 'islands' was just east of a major Philippine military base.
