POLITICO Europe @politico.eu

The EU is drafting new measures designed to squeeze Russia’s ailing war economy. But, having already committed to a phaseout of oil and gas imports, the bloc is increasingly aware it is Washington, not Brussels, that is best placed to turn the screws.

Pinning your hopes on Trump against Putin is a recipe for let down.

Forgive the directness, but… What a load of bullshit! The EU has not even begun to apply any serious SECONDARY sanctions to cripple russia’s economy. Any country that does business with russia should face EU sanctions: total exclusion from the Single Market (incl. financial transactions & travel)

Washington might be best placed to turn the screws but they are not going to so the EU knows it will have to continue itself. The russian economy is on the edge of collapse. Even drone producers with huge contracts can't pay their suppliers. www.themoscowtimes.com/2025/08/21/l...
