Germany’s conservatives are not giving up on conscription. Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Cabinet yesterday approved a sweeping reform of military service, requiring 18-year-old men to register in a new selection system while keeping actual service voluntary.

18 is too young. Totally unethical. In the 21st century we should know better. Minimum for combat should be as high as 30, as low as 26. Special forces are older on average anyways. So clearly older soldiers can perform. It says a lot about our species that we are willing to sacrifice adolescents.
