POLITICO Europe @politico.eu

The leader of Britain’s Liberal Democrats, Ed Davey, has become synonymous with flying off a paddleboard, or catapulting himself attached to a bungee rope. But in the cut-throat world of Westminster politics, some in Davey’s party are starting to question whether the strategy is working.

Ed Davey’s stunts detract from his reputation. We had enough of that nonsense from Johnson

Exactly. I'd 've thought a politician would know when to draw a line at what is enough.

And Johnson won an election just as Davey increased his MPs from 11 to 72. Its also why the media is covering the LDs and taken at least a 2 second break from their Farage love in.

Johnson won cos a lot were fed up talking about Brexit and didn’t like Corbyn. Davey’s stunt lower him in my eyes but otherwise I like him

Also, he should be holding the BBC to account for failure to give adequate airtime to them compared to reform. It's fucking pathetic how weak they are.

I'm a LD member & it makes me fucking angry. I want fire & brimstone attacks against the far right / Labour's kow-towing to them + absolute focus on improving the economy for workers - the middle class has been decimated, poor are poorer whilst the rich are buying up the country on the cheap.

Frivolity, however polished, will not get the Lib Dems into office

It worked well for the LD's at the 2024 election but less is more and it will cheapen them & become counter productive if the stunts continue. Serious focused push back on Farage & Starmer is what is now required.

Then the 'some' are as fucking dumb as he is. He's like the cringe teacher acting the clown to entertain the 1st formers

He does have more MPs than they've had in decades, so what's the metric?

That was just hoovering up the dead Conservative Party seats. A group of monkeys could have done exactly the same thing.

Because he wants to talk about sensible policies. So to get anyone to pay attention he has to do stunts. That’s not his fault, when the media and public would rather pay attention to a boring git in a wax jacket because of his half-baked divisive policies.

That's bullshit, I'm afraid. He has the opportunity to take the public service provider BBC to court for appalling failure to give appropriate coverage compared to a Russian-backed far right party.

What can they take them to court for (statute-wise)? Honest question. They could certainly complain to OFCOM, but I imagine, sadly, that’d shift the dial far less than Ed Davey skydiving whilst delivering a policy proposal.

The BBC is supposed to be impartial and to fairly represent the views of the UK. They are clearly, demonstrably failing that. Easily provable empirically.

He needs to do something to counter the constant platforming of Reform, but I'm not sure this works.

It isn't. The impression is being given that Davey is more interested in self-publicity and acting the fool than being a serious and credible political leader. I and many others have given up on Labour so the choice is: vote for a Green Party that is serious or LibDems lead by a clown. Easy choice
