Well, my relative had a major stroke at 92 and two years later has not gotten worse. Physically stable and cognitively somewhat improved. And Trump's got the world's best health care and is constantly monitored.

Tia and large strokes are different things. A large bleed causes significant impact but according to the area can be (mostly) recoverable. Tia’s are cumulative. You don’t notice them or are minor…until they aren’t. It’s like a straw that breaks a camels back. It’s fine, it’s fine…it’s not fine

And, yes, it can take years. My mom was fine. Minor things but mostly fine. Then one day she woke up and couldn’t get out of bed. MRIs showed she had been having small tia’s for some time. Had physical therapy where she could stand and walk. But she couldn’t maintain foward progress.

Eventually there was a next time…and a next time… each time a small recovery(ish) and a plateau but never to where she was before. Until it took her speech, and that was near the end. All in all 3 years.

And usually they do not die of the stroke per se. They usually die from UTIs or pneumonia.
