I’m no fan of the ATF but since the 1970s they’ve gone after all the right wing militias and gun cults these republicans are all members of. Silencers IRL do not do what they do in movies. They will reduce the sound level by 25-35 dB. Many firearms will still be over 120 dB even with that reduction.

I don’t know why the bsky timeline is so hung up on this part of the bill. Silencers are used to make range shooting more quiet. They’re already legal and widely available, it just gets rid of the $200 tax stamp. There are so many things in this bill that are infinitely worse and actually damaging.

Another thread here this morning details the Senate procedure. Provisions like that will be argued before the Senate Parlimentarian and likely dropped as not fitting the rules for a reconciliation bill. If they are not dropped, it is no longer a "reconciliation" bill & different rules apply AFAIK
