Had an insomnia moment about the value of Dems not ALWAYS voting against Trump nominees. Only to learn that Susan Monarez, who was allegedly fired yesterday, WAS confirmed on a strict party line vote (w/Hagerty and Sullivan NV) on July 29. www.senate.gov/legislative/...

That was when GOPers were furious about Schumer holding up so many nominations (for which Dems On Here give him zero credit). www.politico.com/live-updates...

Okay, you're right to point it out, and right to credit Chucky for it. But here's the thing: Don't you think it's theoretically possible to have a Senate Dem leader who *also* knows how to use procedural rules, etc., but at the same time consistently stands up and works for...

...actual progressive policies, doesn't constantly kow-tow to mega-corp interests and AIPAC, and actually represents the things the Dems should've be doing for the last 40 fucking years? Is that an unreasonable goal??

Schumer was much too late holding votes. The unanimous Rubio vote speaks for itself. His failure to get all of Biden’s judges approved will impact the US for decades. Sorry no credit from this Dem on here.

Schumer wasted time (inexcusable given senate Dems did fuck-all about Kushner's business dealings or January 6 after the first and only bipartisan senate report in 2021) but almost a record number of Biden judicial appointments were confirmed, beating McConnell, who was obsessed with the courts.

That Rubio vote may have saved Ukraine. And the fetish about how people vote on nominations that they won't affect is the worst kind of activist fecklessness.

Oh, bullshit. How about just once in history we try *refusing* to vote for monsters -instead of approving them with the excuse that we'll get an even worse monster otherwise. Helping them is *always* a mistake. All it does is embolden them, & convince Americans that there really is 'no difference.'

spyd34.bsky.social @spyd34.bsky.social

Then the guy we approved turns out be yet another monster --or gets fired and replaced with an even worse monster anyway. (As Trump has already done about 45 times.) And yes, Rubio is a monster --even if he's slightly *less* monstrous than, say, Hegseth.

Yeah, Rubio's given a little cosmetic dissent on Trump's genocidal support of Putin --which may have slowed them slightly-- but he always backs down and plays Goebbels, and Trump always ends up ignoring him anyway. The idea that he's 'saved Ukraine' is nonsense. Ukraine is saving Ukraine,...

...with *precious* little help from us. And if Biden and Sullivan hadn't been so devoted to the insane Schumer-wing 'Establishment' polices towards Israel and Gaza, and so incredibly cowardly towards Putin --*THAT* would've made a huge difference.

Rubber-stamping garbage like Rubio for Sec-State (and all the even worse slime some Dems supported) didn't save anything. At *best* it slowed some of the horrors down slightly.

Exactly as Biden's incredible cowardice on Israel/Gaza and on *real* aid to Ukraine and *real* opposition to Putin confirmed for millions of Americans that there wasn't any real difference between the parties, so why bother?

It *does* help them. As I said, it confirms our attitude and presentation of total surrender, and confirms the notion held by a huge chunk of the idiot American populace that, 'There's no difference between the R's and the D's anyway, so what fucking difference does it make?'

Mayors & Governors are leading the fight while the leaders of the Dem party are MIA. These are tactical victories not strategic victories. The slow momentum of rightwing extremism to neuter democracy & reshape America continues on & will continue until a strong national leader with resolve appears

McConnell was a fighting minority leader. Throw sand in Dem legislative gears, delay, use arcane rules, miniplate the system, exploit grey areas, weaken bills ... every day, all the time. If Schumer fought like this than he's a leader. He only offers occasional token resistance that changes nothing

One of the interesting moments in her confirmation hearing was when she was asked what she would do if the President asked her to violate the law and she said the President would never do that. Seems like she found out otherwise. Will reserve judgement until the full story comes out.
