This is the most important thing you'll read today: "Democracy rarely dies in a single moment. It is chipped away via abdication: rationalizations and compromises as those with power and influence tell themselves that yielding just a little ground will keep them safe..."

And the judiciary hardly ever recognizes, let alone acts on the overall trends. They are trained to rule on one case and issue at a time with a narrow vision. The context that an authoritarian government may be creeping its scope across dozens of venues & efforts rarely comes into consideration.

Weaknesses of the Weimar Republic In the 1920s, Germany faced social and economic problems. The Weimar Government was unpopular and faced opposition from both left and right. The Nazis were able to gain wide support and rise to power. www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/gui...

militarization of cities, military parades, closing schools for minorities, putting up a Hygiene institute that humiliates the imprisoned handicapped, homosexuals, & transgenders and tortures them for experiments, imprisonment of minorities, creating a "superior race" of white men, destroying govt‼️

1/3 and to sustain it, you need a closed society that can create an alternate reality

this dynamic is universal across the globe - its not restricted to any one group - any group that achieves the position of dominance in a relationship tries to ensure no other group can challenge their position - whether that is by identity or class. To do that requires controlling all new ideas

Yup, media can make a difference in how it aids in the shaping of the general population's mindset concerning any issue. They have shown themselves to have chosen to be the mouthpiece of those who hold power. If I could only change one thing, it would be how the media has chosen to conduct itself

the problem with closed societies, besides the fact they require ever greater measures of purity filtering, is that they start to become stagnant and ossify as those who require openness and a society willing to challenge old ideas - scientists, artists, writers, business start ups and the young - leave, and it only attracts those who want greater exclusivity and a return to old ideas enter. There is no new blood, no new ideas. It becomes so rigid that it can not respond in time to crisis.

Either your society dies off and/or weakens to the point, outside entities find it ripe to take over (and a populous who are eager for change of any kind). To prevent that, you have to take your boot off the necks of the very sector of the population that you feel threatened by. Revolutions don't happen on the way down. They happen once the population is given enough of a breather to get their feet back under them Kind of a dilemma

The time to freak out was when Trump openly broke nepotism laws by hiring Jared & Ivanka, stacked blank papers to pretend to divest from bizzes & broke lease terms for our DC Post Office building. He was clearly signaling that he doesn't believe in representative democracy & we shrugged it off.
