And dog your members of Congress. I don't care if they are Republicans or Democrats. Show up at their offices every week. Bang on about CDC, NIH, FDA, CMS (and learn about these agencies, what they do, how they function in normal times). 14/
No one is acting as if this in an emergency, except those of us who work in these fields. But we see the tsunami approaching--a wave of sickness and death that will wash over us all in growing numbers down the months, down the years. 15/
Please raise the alarm with HCW as well. I've been telling every doc I'm cramming visits in because I could lose coverage soon. Very few groked it. If docs don't even get it, it's hard to get the public to. Many docs seem to think they're above it & it's all hyperbole. +they vote their tax bracket
I fear that we will never see the cause-and-effect of this. We came out of the pandemic with over a million deaths, and hundreds of thousands who died as a result of vaccine ignorance. And how did we respond? We are restricting vaccines. Investigating the doctors.
You or someone you love will feel the pain soon enough. Whether it's your kid catching measles in school, you ending up in the hospital from COVID, having to make household choices between the skyrocketing ACA premiums & other necessities. All of this is coming to your town, your city. 16/
It is not fun losing a family member to Covid. You leave this world lacking oxygen!
Don't wait. Take action today. end/
In CA I think we are going to have our own system.
Transmittable diseases are borderless. So even tho having a separate system is some help, it won't contain or prevent the national or global plague.
When I went to college, they barred potential students from attending until they got vaccines. States can do the same.
Even a large and rich state like California can't set up an equivalent to the federal health insurance and public health systems unless they somehow withhold residents' federal taxes from going to the federal government.
It wont be equivalent, but it still will be good. We have top research universities here. I think this is where we are going. cmarmitage.substack.com/p/its-time-f...
We have Americans living in deep poverty in red states whose votes are being gerrymandered away and right to vote suppressed whose enslaved ancestors also built this country. We built a strong federal government in part because of that shameful history, and we cannot leave them behind now.
The DC Dems didnt step up and fight when they had a chance to fight. RBG gave fascists her seat because she didn't resign. They didn't contest the 2000 election. They let activist participating in that, become SCOTUS justices. I could go on and on. They didnt fight; they let this happen.
I agree. That doesn't mean giving up the federal government's power to improve the lives of all Americans is the best outcome for the country.
I lived in WV, FL, and recently TX before moving to CA. I know how radically different those governments are compared to CA. But at a certain point, people have to move to where they are protected, like I did. I have Covered California as my health plan- far superior than private sector insurance.
Wow.
Thank you. Many of us have been fighting for years to make our states better. No one deserves what is coming.
I fought in FL and TX, but then the Dems fumbled it all away. FL wasnt MAGA before.
📌
Thanks for posting this, it’s one of the most important things I’ve read since January.
It give me hope. Because I have lost faith in Jeffries and Schumer to protect us from all of this.; I moved to CA from TX. The governments are visibly completely different. CA sent out its own COVID checks to residents separate from the federal government.
Congrats on the smart move! Yeah this is looking like it’s all gonna come down to the state level.
This blog post gives some constructive ideas about how states can withhold money from feds. Idk if practical, but it is a less damaging form of asserting states' rights than more permanent structures because it lets states play tit for tat. substack.com/home/post/p-...
Besides these ICE fucks, I cant tell the difference between Los Angeles under Biden and LA under Dump. When I live in TX and FL, it was the opposite; no matter who was President, you felt oppressed.
The per capita cost of the UK NHS is about 1/3 that of the US 'system'. Going to a state run system and excluding the profiteering insurance companies will cut the costs to everyone.
I am on Covered California. My doctors visits are $8. My meds are $3. I see the top specialists in the country. My parking cost more than my care. I had a medical scare recently. ER+ 3 day hospital stay at Providence Santa Monica- $850. Its better than private sector insurance though work.
Covered California is the ACA marketplace for California. The tax credits are due to expire so premiums will increase, but the majority of even Republicans favor extending them. www.kff.org/affordable-c...
You probably know this, but the heath insurance rates via Covered California are federally subsidized. I don't know how much that involves or whether that's at immediate risk of going away. Also, part of CC is Medi-Cal, which is California's Medicaid program.
Im hearing they won't. Cal Care is different than Covered California.
If we’re no longer acting as a donor state, exporting our tax money to fund the federal govt and to prop up the red states ($80b a year) we can make it work in California. 4th largest economy in the world, and largest subnational economy in the world.
Thats what Im seing. We have almost $80B in reserves. We can increase taxes on top earners if we need more $$.
Yep.
Oh how I miss living in Cali.

As a cancer survivor and patient still on cancer meds, all of the above is frightening. Throw in good doctors leaving because they fear ICE, can no longer do their jobs due to Kennedy Jr. and his policies of death, hospitals closing, and a shortage of nurses, our healthcare system is collapsing.
Which was precisely their end goal.
Yes, I’m disabled and caretake my husband who has an aggressive stage 4 cancer. We’re both on Medicare & Medicaid, have debts w adjustable rates, it freaking terrifying to see health collapse on all these levels.
So sorry you are dealing with all this. It seems the goal of this administration is to kill as many of us as possible. With cuts to Medicare and Medicaid coming, insurance costs going up, and hospitals charging facility fees, I don't know how many will survive without losing everything💔
Horrible. Older Americans out and the conscious effort for newborns.
But they don’t even care about newborns, or at least their survival rate.
Nope. Once that baby is out of the womb, it is on it's own.
Well, Gregg Gonsalves, I have feared this day but hoped that those (like you) with the expertise would start shouting from the rooftops, so that those at risk will pay attention and take steps to survive the coming contagion. Thank you.

And yet trump’s approval is close to 40%. Tells you how messed up things really are.
It is appalling, the propaganda is very strong. But even at that [averaged] 40%, he's underwater and trending down. Here's the rcp chart on his whole political career, from 2015 to one week ago:
How is he even that high?? Makes me sad for humanity. 😢
Propaganda. The most advanced and pervasive in human history.

There was another school shooting in Minnesota attacking small children….WHY what Robert Kennedy jr, is doing to our Vaccine’s for children to keep them safe & healthy, be a form of mass killings, of children. Fire Robert Kennedy Jr. what a disappointment he is to the Kennedy Family..for shame!
As long as stonks go up most will not care about anything We are a selfish, violent, deeply ignorant and extremely hypocritical society

I have absolutely noticed the Republican plan seems to be for the old poor & sick to get underground AS FAST AS WE CAN for the rich as they were the ones who bought this country & did NOT want to share w/the icky of us in society. DEF some robust financial benefits w/those early returns to the earth
I recently learned about the consequences of #Lysenkoism: www.storybehindthescience.org/lysenkoism
We just need 4 House Rs to stop the NIH cuts. Many are vulnerable and would damage their districts' economies with the cuts. tpasinet.github.io/nih-budget-c...
We need to target the Republicans who are leaving: Ernst, Tillis, McConnell & others. They are more willing to take a stand.
After the bipartisan Senate Appropriations Committee vote, I think we're good in the Senate. The House is less certain. That's where we need to apply pressure. Those seats are all in play...plus ME and AK.
I love this idea.
