my smart tv jus turned itself on bcos it's not smart at all. i wish i could disable all of those 'smart' features. they're not actually helpful and they are forever annoying me.

Yeah, smart is not the word. We have one of those Google Home thingees and a nvidia Shield. You tell Google to turn off the Shield and it comes back and tells you “Sorry, can’t find two TVs” then turns it off anyway.

I had a look sometime back at getting a display without smart features or speakers, but that means going into the realm of commercial grade displays, which while more basic than a smart TV cost way, way more. Make it make sense.

Commercial grade have more interesting features that make no sense in the residential setting, like daisy chaining and in built cooling for extended screen time. They are work horses.

I disabled my "smart" TV. Apps were rubbish. My aerial became obsolete at digital switchover and I haven't used my Freesat box in 5+ yrs. My dish will become obsolete in 2026 anyway as satellites reach end of life. All I use now is my FireTV Stick. I have a Roku Stick but don't use it right now. 😊

I fully refuse to ever connect a smart TV to my network, I do not wish to be spied on and served ads by a large monitor
