The UK one let them outsource it, the Mississippi one they would have to pay for and make all the AV software and such. They don’t want to, so just blocked access.

I don’t blame Bluesky for what the Mississippi legislature did. Age verification is state censorship, and Bluesky should not comply with it.

I read that the Mississippi laws don't let them outsource the age verification, so It is a little bit different. I guess they didn't say that in their statement because it makes them look really bad and lazy.

If I had to guess, the UK laws just want to identify people so they can be reported to the manager, and the Mississippi laws just want to ban the websites.

States and countries are entirely different. For one there is a legal challenge pending with a state, there really isn't a way to legally challenge the UK in the same way. Mississippi is just one state and not even a prominent or powerful one.

They are complying with the Mississippi law, by blocking Mississippi users. Which is equally as spineless. Imagine if the Chinese, Russian or Iranian govts banned their citizens from using Bluesky (hint, they already do), Bluesky havent banned those users have they? Ppl need to wake up
