Yep! And a steady firm squeeze of the lever with one hand while your other hand steadies the top of the staple gun head to firmly set the staple. I used to do quite a bit of reupolstering in my younger days. I have staple strip lengths from 1/4" to 3/4".

I still have my 50+ year old Xacto knife in its wooden case.
