i do not know how to explain to you that there is ZERO moral calculus to be done about chattel slavery. its not that hard to see that slave owners are bad people, regardless of what they wrote down on some paper.

yes! we do, as a species, treat animals poorly! and thats bad! i dont like it! but im pretty sure if cows could look at a farmer and tell him about how it is suffering, most people wouldnt want to own cows anymore!

I do not know how to explain it better. I am not endorsing slavery. I am not endorsing racism. I am not saying the framers of our Republic were perfect. I AM SAYING that they gave us the keys needed to needed to fix the shit. And for that, I do not blame them for the world they were born into.

i thought this was about racists being americans. and america was founded on chattel slavery. if anything, slave-owners were exactly who the founding fathers thought of as "american", and sure, weve made a lot of progress since, but racism is still a dominant force in america
