No that doesn’t work. He was on an extremely popular podcast (which as we saw in that last election were somewhat consequential) and the hosts who help frame the audience’s reaction were receptive to his anecdote about being moved to trans support after talking to parents of trans kids.

You already knew that detail about the expressions of empathy and solidarity Newsom has made with trans people (reflected in the fact that California is a place where trans rights are protected) but your brain is refusing to process that info and incorporate into a thoughtful engagement on the issue
