Ok, agree 100%. But you haven't used this power since the middle 1940s! We've had a lot of combat deaths since then. What are you going to do to claw back this power? (Because it NEEDS to be clawed back...)

Sure, but if they actually pass legislation, that might also bind their guy who can deploy emergency powers "better" next time. Empty platitudes are best for looking indignant without risking doing someing that might actually be effective at restraining presidents of both parties.
Congress should make a law saying that «military operations» equate to declarations of war in terms of Congressional authorization
I agree, needs to be clawed back, been far too long
Pandora doesn’t go back in the box! You taught me that

I'm probably right😂. But let's hope I'm not. Weird things can happen reform-wise in periods after scary things occur. (Look at the reforms of the post-Watergate era for example). If we can dodge this current authoritarian bullet maybe we could be rewarded with some systemic reform/correction.🤞
Damn skippy!
Well, ol' Ben said it best. Guess you folks over the big pond have had an ongoing problem with that for at least eight decades now. The upcoming multipolarity will bring a remedy, I'm certain of that.
