My son had a perforated appendix. They waited 4-6 weeks for the infection to lessen before removing. Said more common with children to go that route. Wife on the other hand was ruptured and immediately removed within 18 hours.

Also, they don't always get all of it. I've had two appendectomies, myself. I basically had low-grade chronic appendicitis for the 18 months between them, and then it flared up and I finally noticed. Just saying. I'd never heard of such a thing, but apparently it's not uncommon.

My brother had been having pain on the lower right side for YEARS. When they finally went in there, it was gangrenous. They asked if he had an abnormally high pain tolerance.
